Lane map

Forex majors

The trader with a small account and a schedule that fits London or early New York hours, who values fully granular sizing.

01

What this lane actually is

The facts that decide whether this lane fits your life, before any strategy talk.

Position size arithmetic

Pip value times stop distance equals dollar risk. Forex lets you size to the dollar, so oversizing here is always a choice.

The session you trade

Majors move on London and the London/New York overlap. Trading a dead session is trading noise.

Spread and costs

The house edge. A strategy netting 2 pips a trade does not survive a 1.2 pip spread.

Leverage restraint

US caps at 50:1. Available leverage is not a suggestion; the 1% risk law does not care what the broker allows.

02

The right order to start

Skipping a step here is not speed. It is the expensive version of the same lesson.

  1. 01Pick a regulated broker and ONE pair, almost always EUR/USD.
  2. 02Learn pip-value sizing until you can do it in your head before every entry.
  3. 03Trade one session window, the same one, every day, and journal it.
  4. 04Add a second pair only when the first has three green months of process.

03

What it really costs

Every line here comes out of your edge before you make a dollar. Budget all of them.

OANDA

US-regulated forex broker, granular sizing, a common first broker.

FOREX.com

US-regulated forex broker with broad pair coverage.

Interactive Brokers

Multi-asset route with institutional-grade forex pricing.

The traps in this lane

Each one is dressed as a shortcut. If someone sells you certainty in this lane, this is what they are selling.

  • Offshore brokers offering 500:1 leverage to dodge US regulation
  • Copy-trading accounts that promise a pro trades for you
  • Martingale "recovery" EAs and bots sold on marketplaces
  • Exotic pairs with spreads that eat the whole edge

05

The calendar that moves this lane

Scheduled volatility is the kind you can plan around. Flat is a position.

  • FOMC and ECB rate decisions

The two central banks that move EUR/USD hardest.

  • CPI (US and EU)

Inflation prints reprice rate expectations, which reprice majors.

  • Nonfarm payrolls

First Friday. The dollar’s loudest scheduled minute.

Archetypes to study, not signals to copy. Ask the mentor about any of them and it will explain the logic, not give you an entry.
